Not much is known about the ship at this time. The Poliagos was a 3,371 GRT cargo ship which was carrying a cargo of 5,000 tons of cement.

While steaming through the Red Sea, on 28 December 1980, while avoiding a collision with another ship, the Poliagos is believed to have struck the north side of Shadwan Reef and subsequently sank.
