Samos Faith at The Red Sea Wreck Project

The Samos Faith was a 1,384 GRT Cargo Ship built as the Porto at Nobiskrugwerft, Rendsburg, Germany for Oldenburg Portugiesiche D.R., Hamburg, Germany for use on the Iberia route. Launched on 01 February 1956, she had a length of 72 meters and beam of 10.9 meters. Propulsion was provided by diesel engines and a single shaft for a top speed of 12.5 knots.

In 1971 the ship was sold to Souster Shipping Co., Ltd., Cyprus where she provided cargo services on the Famagusta-to-Cyprus route. She was sold again that same year to Soutos Hellas Mar, Cyprus and continued service on the same route.

In 1973 the Porto was renamed the Samos Faith and continued service until being sold in 1977 to Dawn Shipping Enterprise, Cyprus and was transferred to the Limassol-Cyprus route.

In 1980 the Samos Faith was sold yet again to Nelapa Shipping, Cyprus, and continued service between Limassol and Cyprus until late 1979 when her normal route was changed.

On 18 January 1980, while on passage from Ravenna to Damman, the ship was lost near position 20.35N/38.00E in over 800 meters of water due to an explosion onboard. No other information concerning the loss of this vessel has been found to date.
